Black Steel Rose is an alternative rock band whose music has real stories that a lot of people have actually lived through; and most importantly, music that warrants change in the world. Black Steel Rose is affiliated with the American Cancer Society. Each band member has lost a loved one to cancer. Fifteen percent of each album sale goes to the American Cancer Society, which this charity helps millions of Americans fight cancer each year. Black Steel Rose is about different guys with different paths, backgrounds, and struggles who managed to come together as one with a common goal to do something positive.
Socially It has not had the opportunity yet to see Black Steel Rose perform, but thier music has been described as a dynamic hybrid of swagger-laced R&B and passionate Alternative Rock sound! Their influences include U2, Duran Duran, Sting, Journey and many others. Like all musicians they want to be heard and be successful, but this band represents so much more than music. Let me introduce you to the members of Black Steel Rose.
This is M. (M Dot). He is the vocals, founder, and producer of Black Steel Rose. He is an artists whose life is rife and with experiences. M Dot has performed all over the world including London, France, Japan, China, Canada, the Philippines, and many parts of Europe. In 2006 M. was diagnosed with early signs of cancer. M. fought this battle with the help of herbal guru Dr. Sebi, and won!
Next there is Chrismen the technician. Chrismen is new to the music game. A Los Angeles native, he left behind his college basketball dream to pursue music. As a producer/egineer he has worked with great writers and artists such as Jeff Jones (Chingy, Jay-Z), Andre Merritt (Omarion, Marques Houston, Chris Brown, and Rihanna), and Frankie J.
From the pine woods of Georgia, to the busy streets of Los Angeles came Blake English; Black Steel Rose’s lead guitarist. Blake’s father and grandfather wrote songs and played guitars. Like father, like son … Blake naturally followed in their footsteps. Blake English’s music foundation consists of Rock, Pop, Country, Jazz, Soul, and R&B. Stars Blake has helped shape with his song writing, production, and playing include Brandy, Jennifer Lopez, Tony Braxton, Kelly Rowland, Dave Hollister, and rising star Heavynn.
There is another guitarist in the band. For over 17 years now, Livewire Fred Johnson III; aka Pep has played the bass guitar and drums. Pep has toured Europe on both base and drums and has played many different types of music genre. Pep’s family has a musical background. Pep has had the opportunity to jam with rock legends such as Phil and Dimebag from Pantera, Munky and Fieldy from Korn and Rage Against the Machine to name a few.
On drums is LJ. This drummer from early youth has recorded and or performed with major artists like Marvin Sapp, John P. Kee, Shirley Cesar, and the list goes on. LJ has unique influences and unparalleled talent.
Brandon “B-Heat” Broadnax is the bands pianist. Black Steel Rose is thankful that B-Heat has chosen to play a role with his soulful piano virtuoso. His credits include everything from recording with R&B singer Ginuwine to touring all over the world with artists like Boys II Men and Destiny’s Child. B-Heat as an asset to the group and he’s also a mentor to the other musicians in the group. B-Heat refers to himself as a beast on the keys.
