So myself (left), Socially “It” girl Des (middle), Lainie, and Jeff (not in this picture) all went out to the Copacabana in Long Beach, CA. We went there to celebrate the pre birthday celebration of S. Dot.
Miss S. Dot is the president of Curvy University. Curvy University is a company that throws events dedicated to curvy, full-figured women. Not to much of my surprise however, the birthday girl was a no show. In fact, I was told that there was never even a table reserved for her.
So … when Lainie and I first arrived in the parking lot of the Copacabana in Long Beach we were quite surprised. This venue is in the hood. There were 2 security officers in the parking lot and a full security staff at the door. We were hesitant to go inside, but we proceeded anyways. As routine at any club we were carded and our purses were checked. What we were not expecting was that we were then patted down by the super tall female security guard. WOW! Patted down? Red flag right? Yeah, well we still went inside though.
We told the girls behind the caged window where guest are supposed to pay for entry that we were there for S. Dot’s birthday. You could tell that they did not have her name on the list. Plus, I was told in the afternoon by a staff member that there was no reservation for her. We still went anyways because the birthday girl told us that she was in fact going to be there. Even though I knew the name was not on the list the girls (after whispering to each other), told us that the birthday girl did have a table there, but that she had not arrived yet. At this point I did not even care, we paid the $5 cover and went inside for a drink. I did text her a few times to see where she was at and what time she was arriving. She did not reply! Not even til this day! Oh well.
Since this is reality and I am a keep it real female, I will tell yall that this place is ghetto. It was obvious that this place used to be a strip club. Come to find out later through a friend of mine, it in fact used to be a strip club. We took a seat at the bar a few stools down from a pimp. At least he looked like a pimp (from head to toe).
Any hoo … the bartender was really nice, and he served really good drinks! They were not watered down like in LA/Hollywood clubs and the prices were reasonable. It reminded me of the good ole days of how a drink “should” be served. To be honest, aside from being in the hood and ghetto we “kind of” liked it here.
The DJ on Friday nights here is L Boogie. Having him there was another plus for the club. He was on point with this music in my opinion. Lainie agrees with me as well. We did not get the pleasure of meeting L Boogie, but I am sure we will one day soon. If you click his name at the beginning of this paragraph, it will take you to his Myspace page.
Anyways … Des and Jeff were on their way down to meet LJ (Lainie) and I there. I knew it was not her regular type of place to go (as well as ours), so I let her know before she got there what it was like. She still came anyways! What a girl. Des and Jeff made it in, and joined us over at the bar. They looked so nice! Awe. I felt bad. We were all supposed to go to LAX this night, but S. Dot changed her mind and said she was going to the Copacabana.

*Des and Jeff*
Jeff ordered us a round of drinks and Des had her water. Good girl! After that we headed out to the dance floor. The music was contagious … we had to get up and dance.

After a few songs, Dez and Jeff had enough. They called it a night. Lainie and I stayed … we kept dancing. The place was packed. There was this one guy (I call him T-Pain Jr). LOL! I am not trying to clown (not at all), but to me he looked like T-Pain. Well anyway, his breath! OOH LORD! No offense, (I’m just keepin it real)!!! His breath was kickin like Van DAMN! I was literally about to faint. I do not even know what he was trying to say to me. It was loud in there and plus I kept turning my head to avoid the blasts of bad breath coming out of his mouth. It smelled like Hennessey, weed, and doo doo.
So, considering where we were, after awhile Lainie and I decided it would be a good idea to leave before the club lets out. Oh and shot out to the bathroom lady. I think her name is Miss Shirley. She was really sweet. We gave her a tip even though we did not use any of her stuff.
So what’s my over all thought? Well yall … if you are not scared to roll to the hood where you get patted down by security before you go into the club then check out the Copacabana in Long Beach. If you like a club that has good drinks at reasonable prices, check it out! If you like a DJ that makes you want to dance all night … check it out. Ya know … Lainie and I both agreed we would go back there again just because.
P.S. To me this place is pretty much a bar, but there’s a dance floor, outside patio (two I think), and they have VIP tables w/ bottle service.
