DJ Amanda Rose

Meet DJ Amanda Rose. She is the first “female” DJ that we have featured in our DJs/Go Go’s section here on Socially It.com! Amanda’s current residency is being a Diva DJ at WXYZ Bar inside Aloft Hotel in Ontario, CA every Thursday night! She is the first Diva DJ for the very swanky and loft-inspired Aloft Hotels in California. Now let me tell you more about Amanda from the interview we had online.

Get to know DJ Amanda more by reading the Q&A below:

Anita: When did u start to DJ and how did you get started?

Amanda Rose: I have always been a connoisseur of music since the day I got my first set of headphones for Christmas when I was like 12. As a child I never liked watching television. I preferred to do whatever I was doing like chores, sports, etc while listening to music. Music is so powerful to me, because all of the different sounds put me in different moods. Its addicting just like a drug you could say. So, long story short I always seen myself as a DJ. I was the kid with all the hottest jams. Before I invested into professional equipment I’d DJ for family and friends with stereos, iPods, car radios, etc. As a typical teenager I hit the clubs & bars on weekends with my girls partying and dancing to all the local DJs. In my head I’d always be like, “I swear I could do what he’s doing & it looks fun.” Just before summer break of 2008 I decided to stop thinking and put my thoughts into action. I spent some of my savings and a tax return on about $5,000 worth of equipment at Guitar Center. I didn’t even know what I bought at the time I just told the salesman to make sure he gives me everything top of the line. I figured invest now & it’ll pay off later. It’s so funny, I’m writing this and that theory still follows me everywhere. (This blog that you’re featuring me in is like an investment to me). But back to my story, that’s how it all started. I had a bigger picture in my head, a plan of how to get there & some spare change to get started. Today is March 20, 2009 and I had my first house party gig in July 2008. My DJ career is only 9 months young and I’m already about to DJ in Vegas.

Anita: What is it about DJ’ing that interests you?
Amanda Rose: There are no limits for me! Unlike a regular 9 to 5 job, (which I quit in December 2008 at Wells Fargo Bank to pursue this full time), I get to be my own boss and if I want I can “promote” myself and give my own “raises” depending on how much and how hard I work. And best of all, I LOVE DOING WHAT I DO! I get to travel everyday, see new people, make new friends including the 1700+ I have on Myspace, & I get to be creative. I am very lucky to do what I do & I don’t take it for granted. The job itself motivates me continuously. I’m always trying to get my hands on the next best thing. I’m innovative and try to do what nobody else is doing first. For now I do all my own marketing, promotions, bookings, etc. From the look of my mix tape covers, to the outfits I rock on stage, to the styles of music I spin. I have a say so in everything. My office is in my room so I can wakeup, grab a bowl of cereal, go back to my room, & get on the phone with all these owners & promoters to arrange bookings. The fact that I’m a woman in a “man’s world” makes everything even sweeter. I respect all male DJs, but I want to be a part of that movement to show females can do it even better. =) Last night I was at a gig and I had a female fan come up to me and say, “You being a woman and doing this is very inspirational to me.” For some reason that stayed in my memory bank, because it hit my heart. I was like “Dope, Thanks.” Overall, I just want DJ’n to help me make my own impact on the world. Down the line I would love to produce & use DJ’n as my ticket to travel the world since I’ve only ever been to one other state besides CA. I want to be inspirational & I want to build “DJ Amanda Rose” into a huge corporation if I can.

Anita: Is it competitive out there in DJ land with other lady DJ’s?
Amanda Rose: Where I’m located I only know a handful; like 5 girls. So we all know each other. I myself like to be respectful to everyone. I never knock anybody or say he/she sucks! When it comes down to it we’re all friends. Yes they are my competition and I’m competing, but I have to for my own career. I still carry a relationship with each of them and respect that they have the same aspirations as me. We have so much to talk about whenever we do get together. Most of the time it’s a lot of laughs and giggles.

Anita: Is there competition between female and male DJ’s?
Amanda Rose: Okay now this one for me where I would have to say yes. Every night I go out and perform I want to show them up. In tradition I’m stomping on their playgrounds. I always try to win their fans over. Since the ratio of female to men DJs is like 1/100 it’s no secret that they will become our competition. Most of the time I get a lot of love but I’ve had about 3 instances where I got “hated” on. I even had my DJ bag stolen while DJaying but it was returned by the end of the night, after I sent out a red flag to security guards. Everyone just needs to understand it’s all in fun. DJaying is like a sport and we compete to win.

Anita:
Have you done any celebrity events? If so, who and where?
Amanda Rose: Since my career is still in it’s prime I’m still opening up doors everywhere. I plan to do some damage this summer. I’m booked in a few weeks for a Celebrity Poker Tournament Gala featuring appearances by Paris Hilton, Pink, & whoever else drops by. I’m also working on some projects for Snoop Dogg & spots in Vegas. DJ’n has jolted for me the past few months. My name is getting out there but I’m hustling 24/7. I’m relying on talent to get me through. A few months ago I turned down an offer from a Playboy agent to be a Playmate DJ so I probably could of had a fatter bank account by now & chances to work for Donald Trump but my mama raised me better. It was tempting, but I do have morals. Slowly but surely, I’m still working all the hotspots their DJs are just under my own name.

My biggest credit to date would probably be the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA. I got the chance to DJ the official after party for the championship team USC Trojans. Prior to that I also DJ’d a private party for the USC team players. That was cool since I have a crush on their quarterback Mark Sanchez, whom I just found out is going pro next year to the NFL.

Well ladies and gentlemen … that concludes the Q&A with the beautiful DJ Amanda Rose! Be on the look out for this rising DJ.

Amanda has also DJ’d for the “First Day of Spring Fashion Show” presented by 944.com at club Sutra in Costa Mesa, CA … inside the lovely Heat Ultra Lounge in Anaheim, CA … and at the Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, CA.
