Ok, so I’ve worked with this group and they are kick ass!!! Their beats are banging, their lyrics are hot and their vibe is phenomenal! Lay Lyric and Vape$ make up OC*OD. I was able to do an interview with Vape$ to give the public an idea of what to expect from OC*OD … “Orange County Overdose” … check it out.

My Q & A with Vape$ of OC*OD:

MS. NYNA: So Where did the name of your group stem from?

OC*OD: OC*OD originated from bein born and raised out here (Orange County, CA) our whole lives. The OC is a big part of us, so we knew out the gate we were gonna rep “OC!” The OD was added to it to express how we felt. I know people are going to want to relate it just to drugs, but it’s more of a musical overdose of sorts … an overdose on our style, our way of doing things. Now pop in the disk and overdose!

Ms. Nyna: Lol! Ok, so what is the main goal of your group? Define your movement!

OC*OD: Our goal is to create great music period first and foremost; what the games been missin. Just real shit that represents us and relates to the masses on all levels. We speak on friends, enemies, our loves and losses, and don’t forget … getting fucked up!!

Ms. Nyna: Okay with that said, what’s your opinion of rap in the OC?

OC*OD: If you would have asked me this same question five years ago I would of said shit! But in the past few years the OC has really grouped together to create its own hip hop scene and music. There’s a lot of unsigned talent in the barrel, clawin to get out to the world. We’ve stepped up and realized that we have a voice and something to say that isn’t being represented to its potential. We live different out here. No gang bangin just Cali life; tatted down with the sand and the palm trees, ya dig? We do shrooms, back flip mini bikes, skateboard, freestyle, get paid, and get laid. It’s Orange County baby and we are here to make you overdose.

Ms. Nyna: Ok, so how would you define/categorize your music?

OC*OD: At first listen I would say we’re loud and rowdy, but that’s just one side of things. We pride ourselves in soaking up all kinds of music and influences from the greatest like Ice Cube, Doc Dre, Busta to Lincoln Park, and techno to infuse and create OC*OD. We definitely love the ladies and cater to their love to dance and shake what their mama gave em. Fellas you can thank us later. Ha ha. The only way I think I could explain it is that we have one foot planted in the street and one foot kickin in the clubs back door!

Ms. Nyna: Whom have you collaborated with? Who do you want to collab with?

OC*OD: We’ve been in the studio with all kinds of cats from all over. That’s my shit! I’m like a spider with my network web. We’ve worked with artists from Oregon, the Bay, Dade County, and Las Vegas. We just want to make music. We love it! It’s our life passion to rock the mic. To name a few we’ve worked with … Noah Jones, Greenstate, JB the Don, Juice County All Stars, Imperial Assassins, Dream Empire, and them, and them, and them, ha ha! OC*OD lives in the studio. We record every day; gethca game up! Besides all the talent we have worked with we’re open to work with anyone makin moves. We have a new mix tape for summer called “Money Hungry Vol 2 Break Bread.” It’s hosted by LA’s DJ Ill Will with possible features by Cashis, Hot Dolla, and Young D. In the future I would love to work with the big dog Eminem. That would be a dream come true … really I would flip.

Ms. Nyna: Wow! Yeah you guys are doin thangs! So where do you see OC*OD in the next year?

OC*OD: EVERYWHERE! Ha ha! We have been hustling like Brooklyn boys. We stay in the street pumpin that potent product. Real spit, I would love to be rockin a BET or MTV spring break in Daytona with our singles, getting more spins than a Frisbee. It’s crazy out there. They really OD. They get to party until six in da morning! In Cali we get kicked out at 2am … DAAAAMIT!! Ha ha!

Ms. Nyna: Tell me what can the people expect from OC*OD?

OC*OD: Expect the unexpected! In the OC we go hard, believe that!

Ms. Nyna: What else are you involved with? Any hidden talents?

OC*OD: Lay Lyrics has always been the harder working one of the group. I’m more the creative brain of the operation. I’ve been drawing since five. I got a scholarship to Aila out of high school, and now I’m the co owner of www.tattooconnectionmagazine.com … Check it out. I’m like the jack-of-all-trades, an octopus with my arms on everything. My hidden talent? Hmmmmm … I can burp ridiculously loud. Chicks dig it haha.

Ms. Nyna: Thanks for your time OC*OD!
